Bad breath and body odor wreak one’s reputation and make the person feels desolated. People live in denial over their own bad breath/body odor merely because they cannot smell their bad breath/body odor. This is rather sensitive area that people might not tell you that you are having a bad breath/body odor unless they are really close to you, even that, it makes you feel embarrass.

No one likes to smell bad.

There are tans of explanations from the experts on what are the causes of bad breath/body odor via the internet but all boils down to these solutions – healthy diet and lifestyle and proper exercise are the keys to curb these problems. Personally I found that the following tips are effective but to stick to them, my determination and temptations are put to test. So, just be moderate and do what is appropriate!

Meat eaters are likely to develop bad breath and body odor

Take at least one correct meal a day.

Meat is known to be acid-forming food. In our body, the meat are digested, detoxified via liver and the excessive proteins/acids are then eliminated from our body through sweat secretion, urination or defecation. When we sweat, we created an acidic environment for the skin bacterias to multiply, they digest our ‘toxin’ secretion and releases the unpleasant smell. Therefore, we should take in more vegetables (alkaline-forming food) which is our body’s natural cleansers.

My method: Be a ‘full-time’ vegan is the best, a ‘part-time’ vegan helps too! For me, I took only vege n fruits (no mayonnaise, dairy product, soy sauce) once a day either lunch or dinner.

Result: Smell better especially when you sweat (without deodorant) and feels lighter. Results noticed only after 3 consecutive weeks of practice (individual results may vary)

Avoid pungent food and bad habits (smoking and alcohol)

Their smell stay for hours even though you brush your teeth or wash your hands.

They make you smell sting when you perspired or talk. Garlic gives you a strong body odor while durian gives you bad breath. Buah petai, I need to flush twice when I go to the wash room. Stingray lovers, say to satay stingrays, it gives you a strong ammonia-like smell.

My method: Avoid eating too much of pungent food like garlic, onions, durians, buah petai (the tree is scientifically known as Parkia speciosa) especially in the day time. Drink more water after consuming them or try to take some cinnamon powder/stick, it helps to cover-up the smell at the same time decrease the bacteria in your mouth.

Result: cannot avoid the strong smell, as you drink more water the smell seems to ‘flush away’.

Exercise for a healthy body

Appropriate regular exercise is a way to banish bad breath and body odor.

The more healthier the body function the better you smell.

My method: Practice the yoga tongue exercise every morning. Roll the tongue towards the center and breath in through your mouth. This exercise stimulates the flow of saliva and thus prevents dryness of mouth. This in turn counteracts bad breath. A proper workout effectively improve metabolism and aid in proper detoxification in our body, thus improve our body odor.

Result: For the first week, the sweat smell awful because the body is working all way out to detox. Drink more water to help your body to flush away the ‘toxin’.  Continue the exercise regime, noticed that the strong smell eventually reduced. (individual results may vary)
