There are a number of museums centered in the town.  There are Ethnology Museuem (old museum), Natural Science Museum and Art Museum.Adjacent there is another museum (new museum),Dewan Tun Abdul Razak.  Within walking distance this Sarawak state museum complex offers pleasant gardens and Heroes Monument for free. I have friends that spent the whole day for visiting all the museums and also friends that visited all the museums for less than 30 minutes. Well, I must say, it depends on your interest.

The Sarawak state museum complex is just along Jalan Tun Haji Openg. Usually we started off with the Ethnology Museuem to get a general idea of the people, culture, lifestyle, economy, history, artifacts and etc you name it here.

This European architecture of imposing edifice in Queen Anne style (Victorian period).

The Ethnology Museuem - learn to know the lifestyle of the ancestors from different indigenous groups of Sarawak.

Decorated witht he Raja Brooke butterfly, it is a Natural History Museum or Natural Science Museum.

It has excellent Borneo shell collection, specimens of both existing and extincted animals. The most awesome thing for me is the hairball taken from the stomach of a man-eating crocodile. Scary :S

The art museum is easily it is landmarked by the Dayak's ornament.

Not easily get lost as you are properly guided by the map and direction given here.

Across the pedestrian bridge there is a new museum, Dewan Tun Abdul Razak. The bridge is decorated by the tribal design of crocodile.

That is one of the exhibition that my family and I went to during our visit to Dewan Tun Abdul Razak. It is a fun exhibition though.

A replica boat is exhibited at the side wing, entering to the museum. It is a museum exhibition gallery exhibits the painting of Sarawak historical happenings in the ground floor as well as archaeological materials in the second floor.

We have fun in the Dino Trek exhibition a part from learning more about the dinosaurs. It was a good learning environment for children too!!

Have fun and learn more ! These museums operate from everyday (except 1st day of public holiday), 9.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Admission is free. Food and beverages, helmet, smoking and photo taking in the museum are strictly prohibited in the museums (common rules).
