We went to Lundu for a Gunung Gading Natioanl Park trip with my family, we needed to take the ferry before reaching the park. We really enjoyed the scenery during the few minutes ride.

We tried to hike to see the bloomed Rafflesias according to the direction given by the guide/ranger but we couldn't find them. Finally, we were guided by them. There were few bloomed Rafflesias.

Rafflesia blooms only once a year for about 7days. When we went there it was fortunately a day before the last day which explained why the color of the flower has became brownish red instead of fresh red. We also saw some Rafflesia's buds, looks like a cabbage in red. According to the guides, they are extremely sensitive therefore we have to be careful of our steps there, don't step on them

We also saw some of the withered Rafflesia. From the visit we were enlightened that Rafflesia can be distinct from its gender by touching the middle part of the flower; female if it is sticky, male if it has pointy 'stigma' like in the picture to attract its main pollinator, the carrion fly. Attracted by and following the deadly smell, we saw the world's largest flower - Titan Arum

The Titan Arum is sticker than the Rafflesia and it is taller than me. Of course to see these flowers we really need to climb and our stamina were put to test too!!
According to my knowledge Rafflesia usually blooms during September here. Perhaps you need to refer to the Tourist Information Center at Sarawak Tourism Complex at Waterfront for the exact date as they will advertise the dates when they are being informed of the blooming by the National Park’s authority.
