The famous Portuguese fortress, A Famosa is one of the oldest surviving European architecture in Malaysia. Built by the Portuguese during their occupation and is located at Bandar Hilir.

The still standing is the remaining part of the fortress, Porta de Santiago after the severe destruction of the Dutch invasion.

Under the command of Afonso de Albuquerque in 1511, this magnificent fortress was built.

It serves as a poignant reminder of the Portuguese Occupation in Malacca 4 centuries back.

Equipped with canons in front of the gates was once frightened and respected by the people. Now, they are the remaining historical artifacts and photography props for us to take a picture of two as a momento. :)

Many tourist climbed up to the fortress to have a sight on the fortress structure.

3-meter thick walls and a 40-meter watchtower had played a major role in protecting the Portuguese and fencing off from their enemies.

Adjacent to the fortress is the museum at Jalan Istana.

Melaka Sultanate Palace Museum known as the Sultanate Palace. This Cultural Museum is a replica of Sultan Mansur Shah's palace, the famous Sultan who ruled Melaka from 1456 to 1477. Open daily from 9am to 6pm except Monday.

    A Famosa was not broken down by the Dutch – it was the British (ordered by Sir William Farquhar) who brought it down in 1806. Timely intervention of Sir Stamford Raffles and Lord Minto in 1807 helped to save whatever we see today.
