I know it’s hard to resist the temptation every time you get your pay or salary. Many of us, including me, find it difficult to save money. In fact, we often spend more than we should, resulting in some unnecessary debts. While I am not a financial guru, I keep reminding myself the following 5 tips I obtained from my readings:

1. Divert your cash to a “untouchable” account

Always transfer at least 10% from your total income (either your main and part time income) from your primary account to a secondary account. It can be either a fixed deposit account or a saving account. Always remember DO NOT apply for an ATM card for secondary account, make it as an emergency one or I call it “untouchable” unless really really necessary.

2. Quit from being a slave of your debts

We need to differentiate things that we MUST pay and things that we can AFFORD to buy. Many people tend to buy things which they can’t afford, resulting them to buy the things in installment. Too many installments will add on your own liabilities and you will struggle to pay all the debts.

3. Make a shopping list

Do you list what you need to shop and shop according what you have listed? Most of us will shop more than what we have listed just because they are having ‘sales‘ and ‘promotions’ .  There are two questions you need to ask yourself as i always do – ‘Do i really need this?’ and ‘Do I really really need this?’ Hahaha. If you hesitate in answering these questions then it is obvious you don’t need to buy it. Save it for next year’s sales then!

4. Shop online

You can opt to shop online via reliable websites or online stores. Sometimes, you can find more variety of product online and compare on the spot. Besides, you save a lot for the parkings, snacks and unnecessary purchasing due to “itchy eyes”.

5. Give up unnecessary habits

Stop craving for alcohols, cigarettes, or drugs. These habits caused your money to fly away with no benefits in return, yet you need to pay more in the future to cure the health problem resulting by these habits.

Well, hope these tips help. I know it’s hard (the irony of putting this title as SIMPLE TIPS..haha), but at least we need to learn to save! :)
