I hate this!! Why I need to go through this every month? This is a common expression that all women would blurt out during menstruation period. Well, you should be thankful that you have your menstruation on schedule. Some ladies that I knew only experience menstruation once every 4 months while a few have theirs once a year. Scary!
My “coping strategies” for menstrual pain.
1. Avoid painkillers. There are many types of painkiller. Usually I don’t consume unless I cannot stand any further for the pain. For me, painkiller stopped the pain that I faced but at the same time it also suppressed my period. As a result, it stops at the day I took the pain killer and continue tomorrow.
2. Take Supplements such as Evening Primrose which is good for women’s health.
3. Use warm bags to warm your belly as pain reliever.
4. Exercise. Stretching is good to relieve body aches caused by PMS and menstruation. There are some low-impact exercise that are good to reduce pain during period such as Yoga and Pilate. What I do is to practice the Yoga Boat position every night before sleep.
5. Consume salty things. Many of us take sweet things particular chocolate as it has endorphins that helps to relieve body pains. This is not working on me, it makes my tummy even more bloated and more cramps later. So, I resulted to take salty things. I drink sea-salt water, just few minutes, my tummy feels better. Of course not all the time!
6. Take less dairy product, caffeine, seafood. Dairy products may help to reduce menstrual pain but it can also causes more pain if consume too much. I like coffee but not during period as too much of it makes me feel dizzy. Seafood helps to produce more red blood sells I only take after period else I’ll have heavy flow of “blood”!
7. Take more vege to get more nutrient from vege , which helps in reducing menstrual pains and cramps and I noticed more vege helps to reduce the unwanted “V” odour too!
8. Drink ginger tea. Ginger relax uterine muscles and thus I feel more relieve. Just put in few slice of ginger into hot water, drink when it becomes warm.
9. Massage the stomach to relieve the muscles around the belly, back and waist area. Sometimes, I just go for a massage spa.
10. Take few red dates daily. I was told to take red dates by some elderly people when they noticed that I am weak during menstruation period. After trying, I found that it helps to regulate my period and most importantly it helps me to regain my inner strength after a ‘massive’ loss of blood.
